"It's been truly an honor to see our community take such a wonderful part in helping others in need. I've enjoyed sharing my knowledge in wigs, makeup and scarves. It gives patients control, when things are a bit out of their control. At our Look Good Feel Better programs, we've watched our groups of patients support and uplift each other's spirits just by being together. Look Good, Feel Better Program A volunteer licensed cosmetologist will help you with makeup, skin care and appearance through our American Cancer Society endorsed program (www.cancer.org). This is a community-based, free, national service that teaches female cancer patients beauty tips to look good and feel better about their appearance during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The program is conducted in The Wheatlake Center and offers participants a private and supportive environment. To help patients practice what they have learned they will receive free makeup and skin care products. Wig Bank Program Volunteer licensed cosmetologists will assist with free wigs including professional fitting and styling through our Wig Bank Program. Donations of gently used wigs are welcomed and may be dropped off at the pink drop box outside The Wheatlake Center entrance or at Fairman's Apparel at 102 South Michigan, Big Rapids.   Caps, Hats, Scarves and Turbans Free seasonally appropriate caps, hats, scarves and turbans are available for those who aren't interested in wigs or for those days that patients don't wish to wear wigs. Visit The Wheatlake Center's Wellness Boutique on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and a volunteer will help with selections. If your schedule requires another time, please call The Wheatlake Center and leave a message at 231.592.1034. Breast Forms Mastectomy patients may receive free nylon fiberfill breast forms (bra inserts) in a variety of sizes at The Wheatlake Center. Gently used sanitized breast forms and bras in a variety of sizes are available as well. This program is affiliated with the Reach to Recovery Program. Wheatlake Women's Cancer and Wellness Fund which is an endowed fund that is held and managed by the Mecosta County Medical Center Foundation, a non-profit organization 501(c)3.
