Dealing with a cancer diagnosis is an overwhelming experience that leaves patients feeling vulnerable and alone. Our Cancer Support services are designed with your needs in mind. Many of our volunteers have been where you are and understand your feelings and needs. They have helped family members, friends or caregivers as they navigated their way through a cancer diagnosis.
We are here to help you. If you can't find what you need in our service offerings, please ask a Wheatlake Center volunteer or email us at SPWCenter@mcmcbr.com. We will do our best to find the answers and assistance that you need.
At The Wheatlake Center, support groups are limited to breast cancer at this time. For support group contacts for other types of cancer and one-on-one support, please call or email The Wheatlake Center for assistance.
Breast Cancer Support

The Wheatlake Center provides a support group, one-on-one counsel and a specially designed Tote of Hope for breast cancer patients visiting the center. Our Wellness Boutique also assists you with more helpful services.

Reach to Recovery Program

Reach to Recovery* program is one-to-one support for breast cancer patients that begins with the possibility of a breast cancer diagnosis and continues throughout the entire period that breast cancer remains a personal concern. Talking with a specially trained Reach to Recovery* volunteer can offer a measure of comfort and an opportunity for emotional grounding and informed decision-making.
Volunteers are breast cancer survivors who give patients and family members an opportunity to express feelings, talk about fears and concerns, and ask questions of someone who is knowledgeable and level-headed. Through face-to-face visits or by phone, Reach to Recovery* volunteers offer understanding, support and hope because they themselves have survived breast cancer and gone on to live normal, productive lives.
Mastectomy patients may receive free nylon fiberfill breast forms (bra inserts) in a variety of sizes at The Wheatlake Center. Gently used sanitized breast forms and bras in a variety of sizes are available as well. This program is affiliated with the American Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery Program (www.cancer.org).
Call Jane Torry at 231.796.5413 or call the Wheatlake Center to schedule an individualized appointment at your convenience.
