Wheatlake Fund at the February 12 Girl’s and Boy’s varsity Basketball games held in Reed City. Student Lynsey Spencer and advisor Stefanie Shomaker involved RCHS students, faculty and the community through sales of t-shirts which were then worn en masse during the February 12 contests. Susan Wheatlake thanked the students, RCHS and the community for their significant support for those touched by a cancer diagnosis. The Third Annual Paint the Crowd Pink event resulted in a donation of $1,000.00 to the Susan P. Wheatlake Fund, which supports the Wheatlake Cancer and Wellness Resource Center. In 2008, the 1st Annual Paint the Crowd Pink fundraiser was initiated by Summer Knoop and Jessica Ringler with the National Honor Society. In 2009, the 2nd annual fundraiser was managed by Summer Knoop and Lynsey Spencer with the NHS. In all, RCHS students have raised over $4,000.00 and have created marked community awareness for the needs of those facing cancer. The Susan P. Wheatlake Cancer and Wellness Resource Center is a lending library and referral information center established in 2008 with generous help from the Susan P. Wheatlake Fund, an endowed fund of the MCMC Foundation. It is operated by Mecosta County Medical Center with voluntary donations and support from the Foundation in the interest of patients and families facing cancer in the five county service region of the Medical Center. Wheatlake Women's Cancer and Wellness Fund which is an endowed fund that is held and managed by the Mecosta County Medical Center Foundation, a non-profit organization 501(c)3.
